In this video I demonstrate the power of Autodesk Inventor's iLogic by showing a Base Cabinet Configurator being put through its paces. This particular cabinet has eight major configurations in addition to Width and Height, American Woodworking Institute compliant cabinet, door swings, locks, hardware selection, etc. In use, the cabinet can be configured to millions of variations, all by just filling out the control form and clicking apply.

From here, the cabinet can be tied to the companies ERP system via the iLogic code. An online configurator could be developed for salespeople in the field --or possibly for end user configuration of their own product! At the very least, a configurator such as this will save your design/engineering department untold hours of tedious design tweaking every time something slightly different is requested.

These cabinets can be placed as iLogic components, which means that as they are placed into the master model, the form pops up to adjust the design. After cabinets are placed, they can be tweaked as much as desired as well, and unlike your generic cabinet programs, you can make the cabinetry EXACTLY as you wish, and add features whenever you like. You can also create custom cabinets, fillers valances, etc. on the fly in whatever form you want by using Inventor.

There are tons of other reasons to create configurators as well, but perhaps the biggest is software consolidation. If you need Inventor to do those really custom cabinets, a cabinet program to do your normal cabinets, another program for photo-realistic rendering, and perhaps several other programs as well, think of the savings possible by using one program do all of those tasks! Savings on training, install time, etc., etc., added to the fact that you would be moving to a world-class program that will be around for the long-haul.
